New Delhi [India], July 6 (ANI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with his wife Savitri Singh planted a sapling at his residence on Saturday as part of the “Ek Ped maa ke naam” campaign started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Today I paid homage to my revered mother Late Shri Gujarati Devi ji by planting a sapling at my residence under the #Ekpedmaakenaam campaign started by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi,” Rajnath Singh wrote in a post on X.
“Planting trees not only protects nature but also nurtures our Mother Earth. All of you are requested to join the #Plant4Mother campaign in protecting nature and contribute actively in making the movement for environmental protection more effective and dynamic,” he added.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also launched the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign in the state capital Bhopal on Saturday.
CM Yadav announced that under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, the Madhya Pradesh government has decided to plant 5.5 crore trees across the state, with approximately 40 lakh saplings to be planted in Bhopal.
“Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, citizens nationwide are planting trees in honor of their mothers. In line with this campaign, the Madhya Pradesh government has committed to planting 5.5 crore trees statewide. The campaign is being conducted in various districts,” CM Yadav stated.
“Bhopal is set to plant around 40 lakh saplings, with about 12 lakh to be planted today. We are here with ministers, MPs, MLAs, and other public representatives. People from schools and other institutions have also joined the campaign,” he added.
Earlier, state cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya announced that 51 lakh trees would be planted in Indore district under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign between July 7 and July 14.
The Indore Municipal Corporation will provide the saplings. Additionally, the Municipal Corporation, Indore Development Authority, and Forest Department will plant trees in various areas, including city and village lands and BSF properties, he added.
