Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 24 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janta Party’s (BJP) MLAs and MLCs in Karnataka will stage an overnight sit-in protest at the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council on Wednesday to demand a discussion on the alleged scam at the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
Earlier in the day, the BJP MLAs entered the well of the House, insisting on a thorough investigation into the scam. Amid the uproar, the Assembly was adjourned until tomorrow (July 25).
“We will not allow injustice towards Dalits. The land given to the CM’s family should be returned. Approximately five thousand plots were allotted randomly, and these too should be returned to the government,” said BY Vijayendra, BJP Karnataka President, to reporters.
The Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, R. Ashoka, declared that he would personally participate in the overnight sit-in protest.
Ashoka alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his family had looted lands that belonged to Dalits.
“We are staging a sleep-in protest in the Karnataka Assembly because this land doesn’t belong to the Siddaramaiah family. The Speaker of the House has allowed discussion on the Bovi scam as demanded by Congress but has not allowed discussion on the MUDA scam,” he said.
“MLAs and MLCs of both the BJP and JDS are staging a sleep-in protest in the assembly to protest against this. They have looted Rs 187 crores of Dalits’ money. The government offered to arrange food and other provisions for us, but we told them that we didn’t want any food as they had looted the money of Dalits,” he added.
Earlier, a complaint was filed by social activist Snehamayi Krishna against Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and nine others for allegedly forging documents to claim compensation from the Mysuru Urban Development Authority.
The complaint alleges wrongdoing by Siddaramaiah, his wife Parvathy, his brother-in-law Malikarjuna Swamy Devaraj, who claimed to be a landowner, and his family. It was further alleged that MUDA created fake documents and obtained plots worth crores of rupees. Snehamayi Krishna has raised several questions in his complaint. (ANI)
