Agartala (Tripura) [India], August 26 (ANI): The Tripura government has requested the central government to send an advance Inter-Ministerial Central Team to Tripura for an on-site assessment of the damage caused by recent floods in the state, according to a press release.
The Tripura disaster department stated on Monday that the interministerial central team would assist the state government in submitting a memorandum for additional support from the central government for restoration works.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall for the next two days, starting on Monday, in one or two places over South Tripura District, issuing a yellow alert.
There has been comparatively less rainfall in the last three days. In the last 24 hours, the state received its highest rainfall of 38 mm at Panisagar. However, the water level of the Gomati River at Sonamura remains above the danger level, according to the press release.
Furthermore, the release stated that the situation is being closely monitored at the highest level. Three teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and five teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are working on relief operations in the Gomati and Sepahijala Districts. About 500 volunteers from Civil Defence and Aapda Mitra continue to be engaged in relief efforts.
A total of 471 relief camps are operational, providing shelter to over 70,000 people in the state. The District Administration continues to provide necessary relief, including food, drinking water, and medical aid, in the relief camps. Clothes have also been distributed to about 150 needy people in the Amarpur Karbook Sub-Division, the press release added.
Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 26, with one person missing and two injured.
According to reports, extensive damage has been inflicted on physical infrastructure, including roads, buildings, power lines, embankments, agricultural crops, houses, and livestock.
The District Disaster Management Authority, led by District Magistrates & Collectors, has been instructed to conduct a detailed and comprehensive damage assessment due to the recent floods.
Earlier today, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha thanked the Uttar Pradesh government for providing financial assistance of ten crore rupees to Tripura in response to the floods.
Thanking Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, he said on X: “On behalf of the people of Tripura, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to you & the Govt. of Uttar Pradesh for your support during these challenging times. Though we’ve suffered significant losses in the floods, with your cooperation, we’ll rebound stronger & faster than ever, @myogiadityanath.”
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also announced that financial assistance of Rs 20 crore each would be provided to the states of Kerala and Tripura, both of which are currently facing natural calamities.
“We extend our sympathies to those affected by these disasters, and the Madhya Pradesh government stands with both states during this difficult time. We pray to Lord Krishna for a swift recovery from this crisis,” CM Yadav told reporters at the Kushabhau Thackeray Auditorium in Bhopal on Monday.
“Several states across the country, including Madhya Pradesh, have been impacted by heavy rains, floods, and landslides. In recent days, there have been severe natural disasters in Tripura and Kerala, and it is deeply saddening that many lives have been lost,” CM Yadav expressed. (ANI)
