Tinsukia (Assam) [India], September 26 (ANI): As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental conservation and community engagement, the Indian Army, in coordination with an NGO, organised a tree plantation drive at Hassak LP School in Tinsukia district to mark World Environment Health Day on Thursday.
According to an official release, the Army, along with NGO Parivesh Sangrakshan Samiti, organised the tree plantation to raise awareness about the critical need for environmental preservation and inspire local communities to take action.

Over 150 participants, including 70 students, participated at the tree plantation drive.
A variety of native tree saplings were planted around the school premises and surrounding areas to create a greener, more sustainable environment for future generations.

The event highlighted the importance of planting trees as a vital step in combating climate change, conserving biodiversity, and enhancing the ecological balance of the region.
The active participation of the local community, alongside the Indian Army, demonstrated a shared commitment to preserving nature and fostering environmental consciousness.
The event concluded with participants taking a pledge to protect and nurture the newly planted saplings and to continue supporting environmental initiatives in the region.
Earlier, the 134 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Ecological, also known as the 134 Ecological Task Force (ETF), organised a mass plantation drive on September 18 culminating Platinum Jubilee Year (1949-2024) celebrations and the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, as per a press release by PRO Defence, Guwahati.
The Territorial Army (TA), a distinguished military reserve force that provides critical operational and logistical support to the Indian Armed Forces (IAF) and civilian authorities during natural calamities and national and regional emergencies, proudly marked its Platinum Jubilee Year from 1949 to 2024.
This event took place in the villages of Gamani, Rihajuli and Chattai Garobasti in the Sonitpur district.
The 134 ETF, established in 2007 in the Sonitpur District of Assam, was formed to combat rampant deforestation and restore the region’s fragile ecological balance.
Since its inception, it has played a crucial role in environmental conservation in the Sonitpur and Biswanath districts of Assam, as per the release. (ANI)
