Kaziranga (Assam) [India], July 3 (ANI): The flood situation in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park is still critical as 75 per cent of forest camps of the national park are underwater.
Many wild animals including one-horned rhinoceros, elephants, hog deer, and wild buffaloes have come out from the national park and moved towards the nearby Karbi Anglong hills by crossing National Highway 715 which passes through the park.
According to the park authority, 11 wild animals including one rhino calf drowned in flood waters.

173 forest camps out of 233 camps inside the national park are currently underwater.
Arun Vignesh, DFO of Kaziranga National Park told ANI that, the water level of the Brahmaputra river is receding, but water is not receding inside the park.

“In the morning 178 camps were inundated by flood waters and it has now reduced to 173 camps. We are observing the situation and animals also. We have shifted the staff of nine camps to other camps due to the flood. Animals had started moving towards the Karbi Hills area from the first day of the flood. We have regulated the traffic movement also on the National Highway. We are really happy that people are also cooperating with us for the safety and security of wild animals,” Arun Vignesh said.
“Inside the park, there are some cases of drowning. One rhino calf drowned in flood waters. So far eight animals have died including the rhino calf. Till morning today, we rescued 45 animals and most of the animals have been released also because their conditions were good,” he added.
On the other hand, the latest flood report of Kaziranga National Park stated that the park authorities have rescued 65 animals and 11 animals died due to flood.
Forest guards and forest battalion personnel are engaged inside and outside of the park for the safety and security of wild animals during the flood time. (ANI)
