Asansol (West Bengal) [India], August 28 (ANI): In the wake of BJP’s 12-hour Bengal Bandh, party workers on Wednesday staged a protest in Asansol over the police action at ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ protest, and the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
BJP workers sat on the railway tracks and also stopped trains at Burnpur railway station
In a fiery attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, BJP leader Bappa Chatterjee while staging a protest in Asansol said that Bengal Bandh is just a trailer if she doesn’t resign from her post as she is unable to safeguard women in the state.
Bappa Chatterjee, BJP leader said, “The Bandh has been called for two reasons- the first is regarding the RG Kar incident and the second is yesterday, the youth and students had gathered to put forth their point in Nabanna but there is a dictatorship going on in the state. She (Mamata Banerjee) herself is the police minister, the health minister and the chief minister. Despite being in charge of everything, neither the police administration is doing any work here, nor the health department and this is not for the first time, this anarchy is since she is the Chief Minister. If she can’t safeguard women despite being a woman chief minister, then, we, the people of BJP demands her to resign from the post. Bengal Bandh is just a trailer, if she doesn’t resign BJP will protest with more intensity. We will see how long she will sit on the chair.”

Meahnwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned BJP’s 12-hour ‘Bengal Bandh’ and called it an attempt to “defame” Bengal.
Mamata Banerjee’s scathing attack on BJP comes after the latter held a 12-hour ‘Bengal Bandh’ protest, following the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ violence. Mamata Banerjee claimed that TMC government wants justice for the victims of R G Kar Hospital and College incident.
“We have dedicated this day to the RG Kar doctor. We want justice but BJP today called for a bandh. They don’t want justice, they are only trying to defame Bengal,” Mamata Banerjee said.
She further criticised the ‘Bandh’ and supported the police actions on the protestors of Nabanna Abhijan rally.
“We don’t support this bandh. BJP never demanded the resignations of the CMs of UP, MP and even Manipur. We saw pictures from yesterday (Nabanna Abhiyan rally), I salute the police for handling the situation well.” she said.
BJP has called for a ’12 hour Bengal Bandh’ after Kolkata police resorted to lathi charge, use of water cannons and tear gas against the protestors in Nabnna Abhiyaan’ Rally. (ANI)
