New Delhi [India], August 22 (ANI): In the Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Sexual Harassment case, a Delhi court directed Delhi Police to immediately ensure security of victim schedule to depose tomorrow.
The Rouse Avenue Court, after an urgent hearing on Thursday, directed Delhi Police to ensure the safety and security of the woman wrestler who is scheduled to depose before the court tomorrow.
Three women wrestlers moved the court after they were informed that the security given to the complainant has been withdrawn.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) passed an interim order directing that “In the meantime, as an interim measure to ensure the safety of complaint/victim no. 4, the DCP concerned is directed to make immediate and appropriate arrangements for her security until her deposition is complete and until further order from this court.
The court has also issued notice to the DCP for the next date of hearing and sought a compliance report.
The application has been kept pending for August 23. The complainant has sought a direction to ensure the safety and security of complainants so that they can testify without fear or intimidation.
While passing the order, the court also considered the affidavit filed by the DCP New Delhi before the Supreme Court. He has been directed to file a detailed report regarding the reasons for withdrawal of security from the complainant on the next date of hearing.
DCP New Delhi filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court on May 4, 2023, affirming that security arrangements had been made for the minor complainant as well as the other complaints after assessing the threat perception.
Advocate Anuska Barua appeared for the complainant and stated that since then, the complainant has been given PSOs.
It was also stated that the complainants were recently informed by their PSOs that as per the direction of higher officials, their security has been withdrawn just one day prior to hearing before this court when Complainant no. 4 is required to appear before the court to testify.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police said in response to the tweet by Vinesh Phogat that the PSOs were called for firing and training practices. This is a routine affair with the police. The PSO has reached back already and for 2 girls, or will reach tonight with them.
It is also said that the wrestlers have also been briefed about the same. (ANI)
