New Delhi [India], August 8 (ANI): Emphasizing the importance of road safety, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena expressed concern over illegal parking on roadsides, flyovers, and other areas, particularly by buses, which causes inconvenience to commuters and compromises road safety.
Addressing these issues, he has issued several directives aimed at improving traffic management and ensuring smoother commutes.
To combat these challenges, joint enforcement teams comprising Traffic Police and the Transport Department will be established to monitor and prevent the overloading of commercial vehicles and overcrowding of passenger buses.
The Traffic Police will also identify vulnerable traffic congestion points and deploy dedicated teams to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Additionally, the process of issuing challans via WhatsApp will be expedited, providing timely information to violators and enabling them to pay fines anytime and anywhere, thereby increasing the rate of challan realization.
Furthermore, AI-based Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will be installed to capture traffic violations, with consequent challans issued through SMS and WhatsApp, reducing human intervention and improving coordination between the Transport Department and Traffic Police.
A plan will also be submitted to relocate ISBT Kashmere Gate to alleviate traffic congestion in the area. A drive will be conducted to impound illegal e-rickshaws operating without valid registration, as they contribute to congestion and pose passenger safety risks.
The Transport Department, along with the MCD and Traffic Police, will present an action plan to implement the Parking Policy, and joint drives by the Traffic and Transport Departments will be conducted to ensure compliance with PUC certification and enforcement.
Special drives will also be conducted to enforce bus lane regulations, particularly on Ring Road, Airport Road, and national highway stretches, with zero tolerance for deviations.
These measures aim to significantly improve road safety and traffic management in Delhi, addressing the pressing issues of illegal parking and traffic violations. (ANI)
