New Delhi [India], August 27 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President JP Nadda condoled the loss of lives in the landslide near the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir’s Katra district, calling the incident “extremely heartbreaking”.
In a post on X, JP Nadda wrote, “The news of several people being killed in a landslide caused by heavy rains on the Vaishno Devi Yatra route in Jammu and Kashmir is extremely heartbreaking.”

Nadda said the local administration, NDRF teams and BJP workers are carrying out relief and rescue work after the Katra landslide, as he offered condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the recovery of the injured.
“The local administration, NDRF teams, and BJP workers are wholeheartedly engaged in relief and rescue operations. In this hour of grief, my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured,” he added.
Meanwhile, the pantry of the Swaraj Express (12472) has been preparing food for passengers stranded at Jammu’s Jammu Tawi Railway Station, where heavy rainfall has disrupted movement and caused havoc across the Union Territory, according to Indian Railways.

Railway staff and railway police served food to passengers stranded at Udhampur’s Manwal Railway Station due to incessant heavy rainfall wreaking havoc across the union territory.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah called the landslide near the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir’s Katra district “extremely tragic” and said he had spoken to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, assuring full support from the Centre.
In a post on X, Shah stated that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams had already been rushed to the scene soon after the incident.
“The landslide incident caused by heavy rains on the Vaishno Devi Yatra route in Jammu and Kashmir is extremely tragic. In this regard, I have spoken with the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Omar Abdullah ji, and the Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha ji. The local administration is engaged in relief and rescue operations to assist the injured, and the NDRF team is also reaching there,” he wrote.
At least five people were killed and 10 others injured as heavy rains led to a landslide near the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir’s (J-K) Katra, officials said. (ANI)
