Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 27 (ANI): On the first day of the monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, the opposition staged a walkout after their demand for an adjournment to discuss the law and order situation in the state was denied.
Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur stated that the opposition had invoked Rule 67, requesting an adjournment to discuss the deteriorating law and order situation. However, when their request was denied, they decided to walk out in protest.
“As you know, yesterday a youth was killed by a mob of 14-15 people in Baddi. These kinds of incidents have been increasing over the past two years,” Jai Ram Thakur said.
Thakur further said that earlier, there was a shooting incident in Bilaspur, in the complex of the court.
“Goons were hired from Punjab and they fired in which a youth was injured in Bilaspur. Of those who hired the goons, one of them was the son of a former MLA. On Mall Road, near the police control room, a youth was also killed. The government has deployed police for spying, phone recording, and to humiliate opposition leaders. Meanwhile, there are some CPS (Chief Parliamentary Secretaries) and ruling leaders who have more than Z-plus security,” he added.
Jai Ram Thakur further criticized the government’s handling of the law and order situation, particularly regarding drug-related crime. “The Chief Minister says that this is related to the drug mafia, but I would say the government is protecting the drug mafia,” he remarked.
Emphasizing the opposition’s decision to stage the walkout, Thakur reiterated, “We had sought adjournment under Rule 67, but discussion was not allowed, and we decided to stage a walkout.”
Earlier, CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presided over the meeting of the Congress legislative Party at HP Vidhan Sabha in Shimla on Tuesday. HPCC president Pratibha Singh was also present at the meeting.
CM Sukhu met LoP Jai Ram Thakur during the first day of the Monsoon Session of HP Vidhan Sabha at Shimla.
CM Sukhu was welcomed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mohan Lal Brakta at HP Vidhan Sabha. (ANI)
