Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], August 5 (ANI): On the 5th anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nirmal Singh on Monday said that today is a “historic day,” adding that there is “peace” in Jammu and Kashmir.
On August 5, 2019, Article 370 was abrogated, taking Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and statehood and splitting it into two Union Territories.
“Today is a very historic day. Today on 5 August 2019, the Parliament removed Article 370 and 35A and implemented the Constitution of India in the whole of Jammu and Kashmir, its results are coming out today. Terrorism has been curbed here, separatists are in jail. People are getting employment, there is peace. There was a time before 5 August 2019, when children from Kashmir used to come to Jammu to study because there was no environment for studies there, today people are studying there and are becoming doctors,” Singh told ANI.
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kavinder Gupta said that a new revolution has come in Jammu and Kashmir.
“A new revolution has come in Jammu and Kashmir. Five years ago there was stone pelting, anti-national slogans were raised, and today all these things have been fixed. If we talk about development then in Jammu and Kashmir now there is a medical college, central universities, AIIMS, express highways etc. There is an increase in tourism. ‘Naya Jammu and Kashmir bann raha hai’,” Singh said.
Security measures have been escalated in Akhnoor, Jammu district and Srinagar in view of the 5th anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370.
Jammu and Kashmir Police have increased patrolling in the Akhnoor LoC area by setting up checkposts at various places. The vehicles and documents are also being thoroughly checked.
Along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, other security agencies are also in alert mode. From city to village, strict surveillance is being done so that any kind of infiltration or other incidents from Pakistan can be prevented.
In August 2019, the Centre revoked Article 370, which gave special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the region into two Union Territories- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. (ANI)
