Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], November 12 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Tuesday expressed concern over the increasing threat of drug abuse in the state and outlined a way forward. He further added that unity is essential for success in combating drug menace.
Governor Shukla acknowledged that the drug situation in Himachal Pradesh has reached an alarming level, making it impossible to resolve within a few months or even by the year’s end. He admitted, “Given the current state of drug abuse in Himachal Pradesh, which has deteriorated significantly, it is not possible to fix the drug menace within one or two months or even by the end of this year.”
He stressed the importance of patience and persistence, urging citizens not to expect immediate results. “Don’t expect a quick fix by the end of the year, as it will take a long time to undo the damage caused by all,” he added.
Governor Shukla reminded citizens that reversing this situation will require steady and cumulative efforts over time. He emphasized the need for a unified approach involving all sectors of society to combat drug abuse effectively. “But I believe that we must rid Himachal Pradesh of drugs, though it will take some time,” he said, underscoring his belief, “Unity is essential for success to combat drugs menace.”
He highlighted the roles of panchayats, educational institutions, the media, and the public in curbing the drug menace. “With the panchayats and educational institutions involved, I believe the media is also similarly engaged, and society is waking up,” he observed, showing his optimism that community awareness is steadily building.
The Governor also highlighted the importance of preserving Himachal Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage as part of the fight against drugs, referring to the state as “Dev Bhoomi” or the land of Gods. He called for a return to the traditional values and systems of the region, believing that these cultural roots provide a strong foundation for a drug-free society. This revival of Himachal’s heritage, he suggested, would strengthen the state’s resilience against drug abuse. (ANI)
