Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 27 (ANI): After West Bengal ADG Police (Law & Order) called the Nabanna Abhijan Rally scheduled for Tuesday illegal, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh asked what right the police have to call it legal or illegal saying that in a democratic country, anyone can protest.
BJP leader Dilip Ghosh said, “What right does the police have to call it legal or illegal? In a democratic country, anyone can protest. The Supreme Court has also said that if a peaceful protest or march is taken out the police cannot hinder it.”
Reacting to TMC leader Kunal Ghosh’s statement that this protest is being staged by the BJP and CPM he said that Kunal Ghosh’s statement does not make any difference.
“What difference does it make as to what Kunal Ghosh has to say? What did their government do against the incident that happened? Their job was to immediately arrest all the culprits and send them to court but they are trying to save them. So people are getting furious and coming to the streets. When that incident occurred then the seminar hall should have been sealed and those who are conducting forensic tests collect evidence from there,” Dilip Ghosh said.
He further said that the state government did not follow any procedure.
“The state government purposely tampered with the place and destroyed the evidence so it is taking time in the investigation but some evidence would be collected,” he added.
Earlier, West Bengal ADG Police (Law & Order) Manoj Kumar Verma called the Nabanna Abhijan Rally by ‘Paschimbanga Chhatro Samaj’ scheduled for August 27 to reach the Nabanna or State Secretariat illegal and an attempt to incite widespread unrest in Kolkata.
He said, “Nabanna is a restricted area. If any programme is organised here then the organisers should put a request to the police officials and the police will decide after considering the case. So far, no organisation has applied to hold a protest near Nabanna. This is a restricted zone and if anyone needs to organise a protest then they first need to apply for permission from the police…We have very specific inputs that some miscreants might try to create a situation of unrest there (near Nabanna). Tomorrow, an exam is being conducted by NTA, we will ensure that neither aspirants nor the general public are inconvenienced.”
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday concluded a second round of polygraph tests on former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH) principal Sandip Ghosh as part of their investigation into the rape-murder of a woman doctor at the institution.
The CBI sources earlier said that the test would be conducted by a team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL). Earlier, CBI officials conducted a polygraph test on the arrested accused, Sanjay Roy, in connection with the incident.
The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. (ANI)
